The world is getting ready for a swine flu pandemic, and it is now time for you to pay attention to your estate planning tasks. Assuming you’ve got an estate plan, now is the time to get out your estate plan and start checking it over. If you’re like the majority of the population, you don’t have an estate plan. Now would be an excellent time to get one in place. Four legal tools form the basis of every good estate plan.

As a lawyer, I don’t give a lot of guarantees, but I will give you a true guarantee. Getting your estate plan finished and in total order will be worth everything you pay and whatever you do. If you have a great estate plan, your family will get more money when you die. Of course you are not going to die as a result of the swine flu pandemic, but you will die, and you will need to have your full estate plan before you die. The swine flu scare just brings to the forefront your mortality and your need to get your estate plan totally in place.

The four legal tools you need in place are:

2. A revocable living trust
